First and foremost let me wish each father in the parish a very Happy Father's Day. Let me also urge everyone to do something nice for your father today. A prayer would be good for all, especially for our deceased fathers. Remember we are all still part of the Body of Christ.
In today's Gospel, Jesus tells us "Fear no one. What I say to you in the darkness, speak in the light. And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Everyone who acknowledges me before others I will acknowledge before my heavenly Father." These are great words to ponder in troubled times. Jesus is with us in good times and in bad. The end of our first reading says a lot too. "For to you I have entrusted my cause. Sing to the Lord, praise the Lord, for he has rescued the life of the poor from the power of the wicked!" We too can use this prayer of Jeremiah, remembering that the rescue doesn't always come right away.
Last Friday we celebrated the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Did you know the Sacred Heart is the patron of the Priests of Holy Cross? We are "men with hope to bring" as we share the love of Christ with all. I especially like the image of the Sacred Heart, when his arms are outstretched offering the love in his heart to all.
Let us continue to pray for an end to racism and an end to the pandemic. We continue to have Masses on Sunday at the usual times 8:15 and 10:30 AM. The bishop's dispensation still is in effect. Come to Mass, if you feel safe and if you are not ill. We keep social distance and use masks and clean after each Mass. Take care and stay well. Happy Father's Day once again.
