I returned on Thursday but have been resting until this Saturday morning. The drive to and from King's College, Wilkes-Barre, PA. was good. I rode with Father Pete Logsdon, CSC, who has filled in for me a few times. The meeting went well with a lot of work and energy. We were scheduled for 10 days but only went for 9. King's College is very nice. It is one of our Holy Cross Universities, which serves that area of PA. but has students from all over.
One morning, in the middle of the meetings, I woke up with a return of a balance problem I've had from time to time. I then spent a couple of days in the hospital while they ran tests and until I could walk on my own. I still feel the after effects and am taking things slowly. Yes, I'm using my cane again. I've seen my local doctor and he wants me to take it easy, which I will do.
I want to thank Fathers Jim Bracke and Larry Henry for celebrating the Masses the last two Sundays. They both said they had a great time. I hope you did too. Thank you for your prayers for me and the meeting as well.
In today's Gospel, we have Jesus raising Jairus' daughter from the dead but stopping along the way to cure a woman who had hemorrhages for twelve year. Jesus restores the girl and the woman back to normal life. In doing so he has a great impact on Jairus and his family and friends. He also amazes the crowd in the street. He also has a great impact on us. Jesus is the Lord of life. Our first reading from Wisdom tells us: "For God formed man (woman) to be imperishable; the image of his own nature he made us." Jesus tells us this time and time again. As the second reading says: "For you know the gracious act of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, for our sake he became poor, so that by his poverty you might become rich." We are rich in the love of Christ.
