Happy Pentecost Sunday! As our Responsorial Psalm says today: "Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth." This prayer is so needed today given all that is going on. We need to pray for an end to the virus and good health for all. We need to pray for justice for all, so there will be peace in our society. We need to pray that the Holy Spirit will really make us all one as brothers and sisters in the Lord. Come Holy Spirit, come! "For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, slaves or free persons, and we were all given to drink of the one Spirit." Lord, make us one!
When the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples at Pentecost, there was a ground shaking change at the birth of the Church. The disciples could speak in many tongues to address the crowd drawn to them by the noise from the sky. They were no longer afraid. When Peter spoke to the crowd, each person heard him speaking in his/her own language "of the mighty acts of God." The Holy Spirit inspired the Church to preach of Jesus Christ and people heard the message and converted. "As a body is one though it has many parts, and all the parts of the body, though many, are one body, so also Christ." We are all sisters and brothers.
We will try to hold public Masses on Pentecost at the usual times, 8:15 and 10:30 AM. Please follow the instructions on social distancing and wearing a mask. We tried to have Mass last Sunday but were stopped by the storm Saturday night that blew down trees and shut down the power in the neighborhood.
I still hope and pray that all are well. Take care and stay well. The Bishop's dispensation to not attend Mass still holds until August 15. Happy last day of May!
