Pastor&#039;s Notes for March 16, 2025

A Message From Fr. Bill Schooler:

Thanks to all of you who took advantage of our participation in the Diocesan program last Tuesday, "The Light Is On For You." Many of you took advantage of the invitation and received the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Your response was heartwarming. Thanks also to Deacon Mel and Annie for leading prayer in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament. Thanks also to Wendy Summers, our Sacristan, who did all the behind-the-scenes work. I hope to make the Sacrament more available. In particular, we will offer the Sacrament after the Mass of the Lord's Supper on Holy Thursday, and also after the Liturgy of the Lord's Passion on Good Friday.

We are also grateful for the $1,200 gift to our parish by the Notre Dame Federal Credit Union, which we received last week.

Lenten Prayer Opportunities ... During Lent, take time to deepen your prayer life at St. Augustine via the following: Centering Prayer on March 16th and March 30, as well as Rosary on April 6. Join us in the sanctuary following the 9:30 AM Mass. Contact: Jillian Snyder.

Hope for the Holy: Solidarity With Christ the Immigrant ... On Sunday, March 23, some St. Adalbert/St. Casimir parishioners will attend our 9:30 AM Mass followed by a facilitated one-hour panel discussion at 10:45 AM on immigration. Join us for a unique opportunity for prayer and solidarity.

Seeking Baptisms for Holy Saturday...Fr Bill warmly encourages families seeking baptism for their babies / toddlers to consider having them baptized at the Easter Vigil Mass (Saturday, April 19th at 9pm). Contact Fr. Bill or Dcn Mel.

St. Augustine Parish Women’s Group... will meet again on Saturday, March 22nd at 2:00 PM in the Community Room. All women of the parish are invited to participate. Questions? Contact: Sr. Betty at [email protected]

Liberation: Songs of Harriet Tubman...A symphonic concert featuring the Songs of Harriet Tubman and Louise Farrenc's Third Symphony, at 7:30 PM, Saturday, March 29th at the DeBartolo Center for the Performing Arts. A 6:30 PM pre-concert conversation will focus on the meaning of Tubman for South Bend, a "station" on the Underground Railroad. Participants will include St. A's parishioner Alfred Guillaume, who helped bring the Harriet Tubman statue to Howard Park.

Christ Child Society of South Bend boots drive ...during March, for new and gently used boots for toddlers through teens (see labeled donation box). The Society clothes over 5,000 children in St. Joseph County each year. Your donations would be greatly appreciated. Contact: Rosanne Cordell.

We Make Indiana (formerly Faith in Indiana) ... seeks 100 tutors, to improve reading skills of children in grades 1-3 over the next six months as part of Tutor ND. Tutors receive training and up to $15-$25 per hour, depending on education and experience. Contact: Alfred Guillaume.
St. A's Vincentian Volunteers ask ... can you help us provide healthy meals this month for 40 or more needy Westside families? We welcome any food donations in the SVdP barrel (by parking lot door). Suggested items: CEREAL, RICE, CANNED BEANS, PEANUT BUTTER, SPAGHETTI & MACARONI, PANCAKE MIX & SYRUP, MAC & CHEESE, PASTA SAUCE, DEHYDRATED POTATOES, GRAPE JELLY, CANNED FRUIT & VEGETABLES, CANNED SOUP.

Communion and pastoral care visits to homebound, hospitalized, nursing homes ... If you or a loved one would benefit from Holy Communion or someone to simply visit and pray with them, please contact Fr. Bill or Dcn. Mel for arrangements ([email protected], 574-707-1231).

Pope’s Intention for the Month of March … "For families in crisis: Let us pray that broken families might discover the cure for their wounds through forgiveness, rediscovering each other's gifts, even in their differences."
