Saint Therese, Little Flower Church, is hosting a Social Justice Summit at the church on Saturday, April 26, 2025 from 10:00 -1 p.m. It is an effort to coordinate social justice groups from area parishes. Deacon Mel will be the keynote speaker. Please consider joining this group.A few announcements:
Next Sunday is the Fifth Sunday of Lent. There has been a tradition to veil all statues in purple on this Sunday, ushering in the two weeks of Passiontide. So, when you arrive next Sunday, don't freak out when you see our statues veiled in purple. We will fast from even our most sacred images.
In this second installment explaining the Sacred Paschal Triduum, we come to the Liturgy of Good Friday, which begins at 1:00 at Saint Augustine. The tabernacle will be empty, and the Altar stripped. Deacon Mel and I will prostrate ourselves at the beginning of the Liturgy, which begins with an opening prayer. In the Liturgy of the Word, we will hear the fourth Suffering Servant Psalm from Isaiah, pray the 31st Psalm, hear a reading from the Letter to the Hebrews, and the Passion according to Saint John. After a very brief homily, there will be 10 very structured Prayers of the Faithful. Then the crucifix will be brought forward, with Deacon Mel slowly unveiling it. We will all be invited to come forward to venerate it. There is no Mass on Good Friday. The Eucharist, consecrated at the Mass of the Last Supper on the night before will be brought to the Altar, and we will distribute the Body of Christ as a Communion Service. The Liturgy will conclude with a closing prayer. I will be available in the Reconciliation Room for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Deacon Mel will lead the Way of the Cross in the parish hall.
