Here's some very good news for a change. Last Saturday, Deacon Mel baptized two babies at the church. Congratulations to Patrick and Sarah Kulwicki for having their son Andrew Eugene baptized and congratulation to Mike and Nora Belzowski for having their daughter Mira Odette baptized as well. This Friday, October 2, 2020 Micah Towery and Jillian Snyder will have their son, John Lark Towery, baptized at 10 AM in the church. Since Micah and Jillian worked for several years on the Friday Soup Kitchen Crew, they requested the baptism to take place on a Friday morning before the Soup Kitchen opened so that the other members of the Crew could celebrate with them. Congratulation to all three families for adding new members to the Church.
This week we celebrate two feast of Angels. On Tuesday, we have the three Archangels mentioned by name in the Bible, Michael, Gabriel and Raphael. Then on Oct. 2, we have the Holy Guardian Angels. What a nice day to be baptized on! All Holy Angels, pray for us!
This Sunday, Sept. 27, we celebrate the Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time. In today's Gospel, Jesus poses a question about two sons. A father goes to each of his two sons and says: "Son, go out and work in the vineyard today." The first says "No" but changes his mind and goes to work. The second says "Yes", but did not go to work. "Which of the two did his father's will?" Jesus asks. They give the obvious answer "The first." Jesus continues and points out to them, the chief priests and the elders, that they are like the second son, but should turn from sin and become like the first. Jesus tells us the same thing today. He tells us to do the same.
St. Paul says the same in the second reading: "Do nothing out of selfishness or out of vainglory; rather humbly regard others as more important than yourselves, each looking out not for his own interests, but also for those of others." In our first reading the Prophet Ezekiel poses a similar question: "Is it my [God's] way that is unfair, or rather, are not your ways unfair?" God punishes the sinner, but forgives those who turn from their sins. Forgiveness gives us hope!
October will be here this week. Time really flies when you are having fun and sometimes when you are not. October 7 is the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary and so the Church dedicates October to the Blessed Mother and the rosary. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
