Today we celebrate Corpus Christi, the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. This feast used to be held on Thursday back in the day. The reason for this was to give the people another day off to honor God.
Today, the USA honors all those who gave their lives for the country in war. Let us remember those who made this ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy.
Today we celebrate the Solemnity of Pentecost Sunday, the birth of the Church. May is the Month of Mary. And of course Mary is our special mother, given to all of us by Jesus on the cross, when he shared her with us through his disciple John. This is your mother. This is your son/daughter. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord. In some places this is still celebrated on Thursday, 40 days after the Resurrection, however, many dioceses now celebrate it on this Sunday, so that more people can celebrate this great event. This option came to be about 12 or 13 years ago.
In case you are wondering about Ascension Thursday, we will celebrate it next Sunday. It is one of the Holy Days that has been changed to Sunday for us.
