Please do everything possible to be with us at 6:30 this Tuesday evening to welcome Bishop Rhoades to our parish and join him as he confers the Sacrament of Confirmation on our six teenagers.
June 3 is an important day for the Church. It is the Memorial of Saint Charles Lwanga and his companions, whose deaths are responsible for the remarkable growth in faith in Uganda. My good friend, Msgr. Larry Kanyike will be with me this summer. He tells me that over a million people join the Archbishop of Kampala and the priests and religious to celebrate what is a Solemnity in Uganda at the site of their martyrdom.
But, Bishop Rhoades has also reminded me that it is also the Memorial of Saint Kevin. So, we have a number of good reasons to be together on Tuesday evening!
We are excited about Bishop Rhoades coming to confer the Sacrament of Confirmation on our six young people at 6:30 on Tuesday evening, June 3. Normally, the Bishop asks small parishes to combine with other parishes for the Sacrament. However, he wants to demonstrate his commitment to our parish by coming here. Please do everything you can to join us for the Sacrament and welcome him to our parish.
Congratulations to Deacon Mel Tardy, who has been assigned by Bishop Rhoades as the permanent Administrator of Saint Augustine. This appointment will take effect on June 17. Deacon Mel will be responsible to oversee the pastoral ministry of the parish. I will continue to serve Saint Augustine as Pastor. My main responsibility will be to continue to celebrate Sunday Mass and offer other Sacraments at the Parish and be available to Deacon Mel for advice and collaboration.
Happy Mother's Day to all who are mothers or who have been like mothers to us. Be sure to take a carnation, which supports the work of Michiana Right To Life. May the Lord strengthen you in your vocation.

Nancy Takach has done an excellent job of taking care of the parish finances, and the finance council is grateful for her faithful service. Nancy would like to move away from this job in mid June. So, the finance council has put together a job description for a business manager position to succeed her. It will be a part time position, and you can find a job description on the parish website. If you are interested, please submit an application for the position, along with a resume. You can email it or drop a paper copy off at the office. The deadline for submitting an application is May 18.
Please keep the College of Cardinals in your prayers as they enter into the Conclave on Wednesday to elect a successor to Pope Francis.
